Several European competitions have begun in earnest while in the United States clubs continue to fine tune ahead of the NWSL season commencing this month.   Here is you 26 March - 1 April wrap.

With the best season to date completed, picking the Team of the Year is a challenging task. Editor, and self confessed football tragic, Ann Odong attempted the job.

After a less than perfect season, Sydney made it to the finals by the skin of their teeth. Don’t judge them on that though. When it really counts, here they are, and that tenacity is what they will need to win on Sunday.

Domestically and internationally, 2012 was a big year for several players.  Whether shining in the W-League in a champion side, tearing it up in overseas competitions, scoring spectacular goals against the Olympic champs or marking the world's best, several senior and U20s players made their mark in 2012.  

Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC fought out an entertaining 1-1 draw in their W-League clash at Wembley Reserve.

The fitting farewell outgoing Westfield Matildas coach Tom Sermanni deserved and wanted didn’t eventuate this evening, as Australia fell short of EAFF Women’s East Asian Cup qualification by virtue of a 2-1 loss to China PR.

“The second 45, again, you saw the difference between a team at it’s peak, very mature and battle hardened against our team, in the very early stages of its preparation.” 

“I think, particularly the first 45 minutes is as good a 45 minutes as I’ve seen our team play, probably since the World Cup last year."
