A record run is set to end this weekend when Canberra United run out against Perth Glory without their captain Ellie Brush leading them out. Brush, who has played every game for the United since their first W-League match will miss her first game due to a hamstring strain sustained at training last night.

The central defender has been ever-present in the Canberra United line-up since the inaugural fixture in 2008 making 35 consecutive appearances alongside goalkeeper Lydia Williams. The hamstring strain, aggravated during last night’s session, isn’t though to be too serious but with the captain an integral part of United's 2011/12 campaign, Head Coach Jitka Klimkova is not taking chances.
“Ellie has a slight hamstring strain and therefore will not be 100% for the match against Perth tomorrow,” Klimkova confirmed. “Rather than making the injury worse we have decided to rest her for the fixture. We have a strong squad and we are able to replace her without too much disruption and Lydia will take over as Captain for the match.”
While bad news for the Green Machine, better news is the return of Ellyse Perry, who is available for selection and is in the fifteen selected for the round to clash with Perth.
“We are pleased to welcome Ellyse into the playing squad for this weekend’s match,” Klimkova said. “We are aware of the quality she possesses and the addition of Ellyse shows just how much strength in depth we have at this club.”
Canberra United faces Perth Glory at McKellar Park, Belconnen tomorrow afternoon with kick off scheduled for 3pm. Tickets will be available from the gate priced at $10 adults, $5 concessions with children under-12 admitted free. The match is also being broadcast live on ABC TV.
