'KEEPER CAPTAIN

A new era has dawned for the Westfield Matildas with the announcement of the leadership duo following the retirement of footballing great Cheryl Salisbury.  Australian and Melbourne Victory Women's goalkeeper, Melissa Barbieri has been named captain of the Women's National Team in the lead up to the Asian Cup in May.  Her deputy will be Perth Glory Women’s and WPS Championship midfielder Collette McCallum.

Both Barbieri and McCallum are now veterans of the national team with over 100 caps between the two of them and a mountain of experience.  It's not usual in world football to have your goalkeeper as your captain but with McCallum considered one of the best midfielders in the world, Barbieri will have a more than able deputy.

The Westfield Matildas are currently in New Zealand playing a number of friendly matches against the Football Ferns, and following that will head back to Brisbane to meet DPR Korea for two international friendly matches in Brisbane on the March 3 and 6.

Is the right selection?  Have your say.
